COVID-19 Update – 03/23/20

Thank you all for your continued cooperation as we work together to keep the COVID-19 virus from our Community. Our Community is clean and continues to be disinfected on a daily basis. The weakest link in keeping our Residents healthy and safe, however, is the consequence of someone entering the community who is infected, but not showing any symptoms. We cannot stress enough the importance of respecting the restrictions set on entering ALL Senior Communities by Health Officials – to include families, Home Health Care providers, and Private Duty companies.

Currently, the highest risk of infection to our community is when a resident visits a physician’s office or emergency room; and then returns to Parsons House. To avoid this risk, we prefer you to follow the recommendation of Health Officials and opt to have medical services delivered to your loved one’s apartment. This can be coordinated in one of several ways. If the Resident’s doctor does not visit Parsons House, a face time encounter can be arranged. We have doctors that visit Parsons House on a frequent basis. We would be happy to arrange a visit in the Resident’s apartment. But if immediate and urgent medical care is needed, we will of course call 911. What we do want to avoid is a Resident’s trip to the Emergency Room out of ‘convenience’ rather than absolute medical necessity.

COVID-19 Update – 03/19/20

The following are the latest adjustments to our processes to deal with changing events:

  • Hy-Vee recently closed its distribution center for all pick-up and deliveries. Hy-Vee does partner with Instacart for deliveries; however, they are currently delayed and unpredictable due to increased market demand.
  • Not to be entirely deterred, we are increasing (based on availability) the following items at the Parsons House Corner Store:
    • Toilet paper, soap, paper towels and facial tissues.
    • A few non-perishable food items will start to be inventoried.
    • As we are purchasing these items on the open market, and availability maybe scarce, preference will be given to residents who do not have family members here locally to provide these items.
  • Townhall meetings will be handled differently due to the restrictions on gatherings. Each resident will be receiving a form to submit questions, concerns, or comments. A townhall response memo will then be created and distributed throughout the community.
  • As events warrant, written summaries will be distributed to each Resident’s room that will recap any new guidelines, procedurals changes or updates for the community.
  • Mail delivery is still taking place. We are receiving all mail into the distribution box in the vestibule. The mail will then be delivered to the residents’ rooms. As we receive our mail in the afternoon, mail most likely will not reach the resident until the following day (unless it is a perishable item).
  • Communication:
    • We have had a good initial response from families utilizing the Parsons House new community email address, communityinfo@parsonshousemgt.com. Please use this email address to send photos, letters, and messages to your loved one. Be sure to list your loved one’s “NAME” in the subject line, so that we can deliver as quickly as possible.

COVID-19 Update – 03/17/20

The following are the latest developments, processes and actions we are taking to keep our residents and staff as safe as possible during the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • In compliance with the CDC and Public Health recommendations, all large group activities have been immediately cancelled. We are working diligently to provide smaller activities, abiding by the social distancing and participation guidelines. We are also increasing the number of individual activities provided to residents in their rooms.
  • In further compliance with CDC recommendations, all communal dining will cease until we are directed otherwise by authorities. Meals will be delivered to each resident’s room in Assisted Living and Memory Care.
  • We will also be instituting more frequent rounding as residents may be in their rooms for longer periods of time.
  • We have established a new email page for your use: communityinfo@parsonshousemgt.com . Please use this email to send photos, letters, and messages to your loved one. Be sure to list your loved one’s “NAME” in the subject line, so that we can deliver as quickly as possible.
  • We know our current visiting restrictions are difficult for our residents and families, but a necessary step at this time. Remember that we are following daily changes implemented by the CDC.
  • Please follow our Facebook page for ways to interact with them utilizing Facebook live activities and video messages.
