COVID-19 Update – 07/09/20

The safety and well being of our residents, team, and visitors is our highest priority. As a locally owned and operated senior living community, Parsons House has been able to respond quickly to local and national guidance provided by the Douglas County Health Department, Nebraska Medicine, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We will continue to update our practices as we receive new information and direction from health officials.

Precautions taken at our community

  • Enhanced Screening – all employees, vendors, and home healthcare workers are being screened (questionnaire and temperature checks) prior to being allowed into our community. We are in the process of procuring Health Screening Kiosks and will be using these kiosks to screen employees, vendors, and visitors (when we are once again allowed to accept visitors).
  • Resident Screening – Daily wellness checks (symptom and temperature checks)
  • Limited Access – At this time, we are only allowing employees, select vendors, home healthcare workers, and some prospective residents to enter our community.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – We have directed all employees, vendors, and home healthcare workers to wear masks, practice effective hand hygiene, and remain socially distant whenever possible and practical.
  • Staff incentives – Employees who were working multiple jobs (often at more than one senior healthcare facility) were offered the opportunity to work overtime at Parsons House if they agreed to only work at Parsons House for the duration of the health crisis. Employees are also granted additional sick time should they need to take time off as a precaution or are on mandatory or voluntary quarantine.
  • Physical distancing – Our direct care staff are only allowed to work in one part of our community. For example, a caregiver who works in Memory Support is not allowed to also work in our Assisted Living areas. We have also created new “break rooms” to promote physical distancing.

It is our duty to serve existing residents while also allowing other seniors the opportunity to join us as new residents. It is important to remember that there are many seniors across Omaha who need assisted living care, but have been unable to receive it because of COVID-19. We are committed to helping these elders while also putting practices in place to promote health and wellness for our existing residents.

All prospective residents will meet with us first via video and/or phone conference. During these meetings we will show them the community and answer their questions. If the prospective resident is still interested, but want to see the apartment in-person before making a decision, we will provide them with an opportunity to visit the community after completing a questionnaire and temperature check. We will only allow two people to visit our community and will take them directly to a pre-selected apartment. All visitors will be required to wear masks.

Welcoming New Residents

All new residents will be required to take a Covid-19 test prior to move in. We will time the test so the results are received as close to move in as possible and practical. We will then ask the new resident to remain in isolation for the time recommended by health officials.
